Addressable fire alarm system differs from conventional fire alarm system as it adds more flexibility, intelligence, speed of identification and scope of control. An addressable fire alarm panel communicates directly with each device as each initiating device, such as a manual pull station, smoke or heat detector, or duct detection unit, has its own unique identification number or “address.” This allows each appliance’s individual status to be transmitted to the fire alarm control panel.

Conventional fire alarm systems have been around for many years. Although the appearance of the system components has changed dramatically over the years, the system operation has not. This conventional system normally consists of a control panel linked to a number of circuits of smoke, heat detectors and manual call points, with a similar number of sounder zones.
